Semen Gresik Holds an Emergency Response Simulation, Ensuring Reliability of OHS Implementation

Rembang, September 23, 2022 – PT Semen Gresik (PTSG) held another emergency response simulation in the company's operational area. The simulation took place in the limestone quarry area of the Rembang factory on Thursday, September 22, 2022.

This annual simulation involved personnel from the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) division, Mining division, Security division, United Tractors Semen Gresik (UTSG), and the Factory Polyclinic team.

Senior Manager of Communication & CSR PTSG, Dharma Sunyata, explained that the simulation is a manifestation of commitment to implementing the OHS management system. In addition, this simulation aims to ensure that workers know and understand emergency response procedures (P/SG/SHE/008) and to ensure the readiness of equipment and teams in dealing with emergencies.

"Emergencies, such as fires, natural disasters, or various work accidents, can come about anytime in unexpected conditions. Therefore, every company must establish an emergency response planning procedure,” Sunyata explained in his press statement (23/9).

He continued that the simulation started at 9 a.m. Western Indonesia Time (WIB) with the smoke from smoke bombs billowing from the excavator due to a short circuit which caused sparks and local fires in the unit. Then, workers coordinated with the security team and the firefighter team.

During the simulation of fire extinguishing and evacuation of the unit, the working area became hot. One of the personnel inhaled too much smoke to faint and was evacuated by the medical team.

"This emergency response simulation ran by the scenario, following the real situation plot, where everyone played their roles seriously," said Sunyata.

Sunyata added that the emergency response simulation is expected to train the personnel in preparedness for handling emergencies.

"In addition, it aims to evaluate the readiness of equipment and supporting infrastructure in carrying out emergency responses and to evaluate whether the emergency response procedures listed in the procedure document number P/SG/SHE/008 remain effective," he concluded.
