Semen Gresik Wins the PWI of Central Java Award as the Best Company in Empowering MSMEs
Rembang, March 29, 2022 - PT Semen Gresik (PTSG) received the 2022 Indonesian Journalist Association (PWI) of Central Java Award as the best company that consistently empowers the community through Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). PTSG has also been considered a company committed to environmental protection and the press by supporting the Journalist Competency Test (UKW) program.
Amir Machmud NS, the Chairperson of PWI of Central Java, presented the award to Gatot Mardiana, the Head of the Communication and Legal Department of PTSG, at the Awarding Ceremony at Gradhika Bhakti Praja, Semarang on Friday (25/3).
Dharma Sunyata, the Senior Manager of Communication and CSR Unit of PTSG, expressed his gratitude for receiving the 2022 PWI of Central Java Award as a high appreciation to Semen Gresik.
"Hopefully, this award will encourage us to continue to empower MSMEs in developing a quality, independent, advanced, and prosperous society, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic," said Sunyata in a press release on Tuesday (29/3).
Sunyata emphasized that, as a subsidiary of PT Semen Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (SIG), one of the largest SOEs in Indonesia, PTSG has a solid commitment to assisting small business owners in the company's operational areas actively.
He added that this step was a part of implementing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) achievements, which aimed to improve people's welfare and support national economic growth.
The PTSG's achievement in managing MSMEs to go modern, go digital, and go online could not be separated from the actual contribution of the Rumah BUMN (RB) Rembang initiated by SIG. Through RB Rembang, MSME's actors were capable of exchanging their knowledge about business strategies, ranging from packaging, administration, marketing, and widening networks.
Sunyata continued that RB Rembang had recorded remarkable achievements since its establishment on August 17, 2020. As of February 2022, RB Rembang has completed 8,732 transactions with a nominal value exceeding IDR1.34 billion. On the other hand, RB Rembang has fostered 233 MSME partners with a workforce capacity of 1,400 people.
He added that the company's contribution to empowering business actors was awarding the MSME actors through the UMKM Kokoh program. This award was given to 10 MSMEs actively involved in RB Rembang and experienced significant technological transformation and various improvements in packaging, branding, production management, and financial management.
A total of 10 TOP MSMEs selected from hundreds of MSMEs in Rembang Regency had previously participated in a boot camp with various challenges from the judges and practitioners.
On the other hand, the Chairperson of PWI of Central Java, Amir Machmud, said that the PWI of Central Java Award is a form of appreciation to companies and those who play a significant role as agents of change through their development of ideas, innovation, and commitment that benefits the community.
"The Rembang factory of PT Semen Gresik meets the criteria for a tiered assessment involving PWI at the district/city level. The company provides an example and inspiration in empowering MSMEs that care for the environment and contribute to strengthening journalist resources' capacity," said Machmud.
