Strengthening Green Industry, SG Utilizes 100% Purified Gypsum in Cement Production Process
Rembang, August 10, 2022 – PT Semen Gresik (PTSG) consistently implements the principle of manufacturing excellence based on the green industry by using 100% purified gypsum as raw material for cement production.
Purified gypsum is utilized as a result of other industrial products being absorbed, which can save non-renewable natural resources and enhance the use of local components (TKDN) to reduce the use of imported products.
Senior Manager of Communications and CSR of PTSG, Dharma Sunyata, explained that with the utilization of purified gypsum, Semen Gresik is listed as one of the best practices of the Semen Indonesia Group (SIG). In addition, SG is also the first company since its first operation in 2017 until now to consistently use 100% purified gypsum as raw material.
"Semen Gresik requires 3-5% purified gypsum from the total number of cement products produced. For the target in 2022, there is an increase of 14% from 2021," explained Dharma Sunyata in his press release (10/8).
Purified gypsum (CaSO4.2H2O) is a material that must be added to the clinker milling process into cement, with a function to regulate the cement setting time or known as a retarder.
Further, Sunyata asserted that the use of purified gypsum has benefited the company due to its economical cost since the price is more competitive than natural (import) gypsum, which is usually obtained from abroad.
"Semen Gresik is committed to consistently maintaining product quality and supporting development in Indonesia, such as toll roads, bridges, buildings, and other infrastructures," he concluded.
