The Implementation of Semen Gresik's Green Industry by Utilizing Alternative Fuel
Rembang, March 7th, 2022 - PT Semen Gresik (PTSG) continually optimizes the utilization of Alternative Fuel and Raw Material (AFR) to replace the main fuel and raw material to reduce the use of resources and raw materials, as well as to create eco-friendly energy.
The Head of PTSG's Production and Maintenance Department, Mochmad Syaiful, firmly said that the use of AFR intends to reduce waste, CO2 emissions, and the use of non-renewable resources so that it could suppress global warming.
"The waste utilization as an alternative fuel and raw material is a form of the company's commitment in supporting the implementation of eco-friendly green industry program. It also reduces the cost of production since it limits the use of coals and industry diesel as the main fuel," Syaiful said in his press release on Monday (03/07).
Syaiful added that, in 2021, the Thermal Substitution Rate of alternative fuel was increased by 218% compared to 2020. Meanwhile, the needs of the company's coals in 2021 achieved TSR by 122% over the target.
"The use of alternative fuel clearly can reduce the cost of production because it limits the use of coals and diesel as the main fuel, which are non-renewable resources. In addition, it can also reduce gas emissions, especially CO2. This is in line with the company's roadmap in the energy conservation program," he emphasized.
On the other hand, he continued, the additional income is also obtained from the polluter payment program that burned the waste in Semen Gresik's factory. Those who own Spent Bleaching Earth (SBE) and bottom ash can utilize the facilitation of this factory to destroy those two materials in the process of cement production.
"Factories or waste producers can synergize with us for every ton of destroyed waste, which is estimated that it can reach 40,000 to 50,000 tons each year. In 2021, during the COVID-19 pandemic, we also had wiped out 32,18 tons of medical waste," Syaiful added.
He continued that Semen Gresik also utilizes several alternative materials in its production process. For the alternative fuel materials, Semen Gresik uses its internal waste such as used oil, used PPU filter, and used dust cloth. Semen Gresik has also utilized corncob waste, which is commonly found in Rembang and shoe waste. Meanwhile, for the alternative raw materials, Semen Gresik uses Spent Bleaching Earth (SBE), De-Oiled Bleaching Earth (DOBE), fly ash, and bottom ash.
