With Best Mining Practices, Semen Gresik Scoops Good Mining Practice 2023 Award by ESDM Jawa Tengah

Rembang, May 13, 2023 PT Semen Gresik again received a prestigious award for mining by getting Apresiasi Terbaik 1 Good Mining Practice (GMP) 2023 from Dinas Energi dan Sumber Daya Mineral (ESDM) Provinsi Jawa Tengah (the Central Java’s provincial office for energy and mineral resources), which was given at Panggung Hiburan ABC, Bulupayung Village, Kesugihan District, Cilacap Regency.

The award was directly received by the Caretaker President Director of PT Semen Gresik, Muchamad Supriyadi, from Kepala Sub Bagian Mineral dan Batubara ESDM Jawa Tengah (the head of mineral and coal subdivision of the provincial office), Agus Sugiharto.

In attendance at the event of the award were the Governor of Central Java Ganjar Pranowo, the Head of ESDM Jawa Tengah Sujarwanto Dwiatmoko, the Caretaker President Director of PT Semen Gresik Muchamad Supriyadi, as well as representatives of various government offices and relevant local communities.

The Governor of Central Java, Ganjar Pranowo, stated that bad mining practices were damaging to the environment. In fact, the application of GMP could improve the environment, which in turn would be beneficial for all.

“We hope that the application of GMP as a part of the responsibilities and duties of the industry players, particularly those operating in Central Java, would be of great benefit to the environment and the local communities,” he explained.

Ganjar continued that the 2023 Good Mining Practice awards were given to mining companies that displayed strong commitments to environmental, social, and economic aspects of their operational activities.

Meanwhile, the Caretaker President Director of PT Semen Gresik, Muchamad Supriyadi, stated that this appreciation confirmed even more that the company had performed mining practices in accordance with government regulations.

“Since the time Semen Gresik began its operations, it has been applying GMP. It has been, therefore, a part of Semen Gresik’s vision to become a pioneer of the cement industry in creating sustainable values through the accelerated application of eco-friendly technologies,” Supriyadi revealed.

Supriyadi expressed his appreciation to all of the teams and the employees for the work they had done. “The company’s commitment is to maintain standards of mining practices that are responsible, environmentally friendly, participatory and supportive toward the surrounding communities, as well as positively contributing to the development of the region,” he explained.

He added that the presence of a greenbelt containing tens of thousands of trees in the surrounding area of the mining site was also continuously promoted as a part of the means to monitor and manage the mining areas.

In addition to excellent and eco-friendly practices of operations management, Semen Gresik also consistently conducted Program Pemberdayaan Masyarakat (PPM, a program for community empowerment) around the company in the form of various programs. This included the program of Edupark & Pertanian Perkebunan Peternakan Terpadu (P4T) (integrated agriculture, plantation, and animal husbandry) (for environmental aspect), the program of Forum Masyarakat Madani (FMM) through the infrastructure construction in 6 villages around the company (for infrastructural aspect), the formation of Semen Gresik Sahabat Petani (SGSP) (for agricultural aspect), the program of Semen Gresik Sahabat Seni (SGSS) (for arts aspect), as well as the program of Pemberdayaan UMKM Naik Kelas (the empowerment and upgrading of micro-, small-, and medium-sized enterprises) through Rumah BUMN Rembang.
