Attended by Central Java Governor, Ganjar Pranowo, Central Java SG-PWI Successfully Holds Journalist Competency Test in Central Java
Rembang, March 1, 2021- The 2021 Journalist Competency Test (UKW) initiated by PT Semen Gresik (SG) and Central Java PWI (Indonesian Journalists Association) was successfully held at the Hotel Novotel Semarang on February 26-27, 2021. Besides attended by the Governor of Central Java, Ganjar Pranowo, this activity was designed differently from the previous ones by organizing a news writing competition with attractive prizes. The UKW activity, held with the implementation of strict health protocols, was attended by 24 journalists from dozens of print, online, and radio media from various districts/cities throughout Central Java.
Ganjar Pranowo appreciated SG for supporting UKW activity through the media relations program. SG took part in educating journalists to be more professional.
"UKW is an investment and optimism to create more qualified and professional journalists to be ready for facing media business turbulence due to rapid changes," said Ganjar.
The Finance Director of Semen Gresik, Muchamad Supriyadi, revealed that SG is committed and consistent in supporting the efforts to improve the journalists' competency and education.
Supriyadi stated that the involvement of Semen Gresik in initiating and supporting UKW activity should not be interpreted as an effort to control media workers but rather as collaboration and synergy between the corporation and the media that had been closely intertwined.
“We have supported the UKW program three times since 2018 and collaborated with Central Java PWI to hold UKW in 2019 and 2021. In 2020, it was suspended due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Hopefully, the communication, collaboration, and synergy become stronger in the future," said Supriyadi in his press release, Monday, March 1, 2021.
The chairman of Central Java PWI, Amir Machmud NS, appraised Semen Gresik as one of the most open corporations holding good relations with all media partners, especially Central Java PWI.
Machmud assured that his party would continually hold UKW activity as the main PWI program. It aims to prepare journalists with journalistic skills, so they have adequate competency in their duties.
UKW aims to build journalists’ competency, not to only be measured in terms of knowledge and capability to produce journalistic works, but also professionalism and journalistic idealism, including honesty, integrity, social care, and sincerity.
UKW has been held for the third time organized by SG since 2018 where the second UKW was in collaboration with the Central Java PWI. SG is committed to making UKW a flagship annual program supporting good and constructive media relations.
