Committed to be an Environmentally Friendly Industry, Semen Gresik Preserves Hundreds of Species of Flora, and Fauna in the Rembang Factory Environment
Rembang, May 17th, 2024 – PT Semen Gresik has made various efforts to support environmental conservation, both in post-mining land and other areas in the Rembang factory area. The increase in various types of flora and fauna species in the factory area is proof that the factory's operational processes are running according to sustainable conservation programs.
Senior Manager of Production Support of PT Semen Gresik, Kuswandi, explained that by planting trees and building natural habitats, the company has succeeded in creating a more balanced and friendly environment for various species of flora and fauna.
"According to 2023 data, from 6 monitoring locations there are 588 species of flora communities (consisting of tree species, saplings, saplings, seedlings, herbs, grasses, and ground cover), and 196 species of fauna communities (consisting of bird species, reptiles, amphibians, mammals, and arthropods)," he explained.
He continued, that in the factory green area, there are also rare protected species of flora and fauna such as the bido snake eagle, cow alap-alap, Javanese cekakak, green chicken forest, bird wing butterfly, and fish fin palm plant.
"As a form of responsibility for environmental sustainability, until now Semen Gresik has reclaimed 3 hectares of clay post-mining land and 5.5 hectares of limestone post-mining land. The company has also planted various types of trees, more than 33,610 trees," he said.
Not only providing benefits to the environment, he added, conservation efforts also have a positive impact on the surrounding community. Providing a healthy habitat for local flora and fauna also improves the quality of the environment and the welfare of the community around the factory.
"Semen Gresik involves 361 farmers from six surrounding villages to manage 119.25 hectares of land owned by the Company which is expected to provide added economic value," he said.
