Encouraging the Acceleration of New and Renewable Energy, SG Utilizes Solar Panels for the Company's Operation

Rembang, June 29, 2022 - PT Semen Gresik (PTSG) utilizes new and renewable energy (EBT) to assist the operational process of the Rembang Plant. As many as 30 solar panels or solar power plants are installed with a capacity of 14.55 kWp (kilowatt peak).

Solar panels are intended to reduce energy consumption and assist the Government's initiative to accelerate the use of new and renewable energy that is more environmentally friendly.

According to Dharma Sunyata, the Senior Manager of Communication and CSR Unit of PTSG, the company's commitment to energy efficiency and practical support for the global agreement to reduce the impact of climate change and carbon dioxide and greenhouse gas emissions was realized through the company's increased usage of EBT.

"The use of solar panels also happens to be the company's effort to support the sustainability program and technological transformation launched by PT Semen Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (SIG)," said Sunyata in the press release on Wednesday (29/6).

Sunyata further explained that the construction of the solar panels began at the end of December 2021 and finished in the middle of January 2022. The total energy generated until the end of June 2022 was 4.09 MWh.

He continued that the percentage of energy backed up for the factory's entire energy scale has not been optimal since it is a pilot project. However, the existing solar panel system at CCR is specifically utilized to meet the electrical energy needs of laboratory equipment, and it provides between 60% and 70% of the laboratory's monthly energy requirements.

"We believe that using solar panels is effective for electricity cost-efficiency as it can significantly reduce monthly expenditures," he asserted.

Solar panels, Sunyata added, serve as power plants that convert solar energy into electrical energy. The solar panel system currently installed on the rooftop of the CCR of Rembang Factory utilizes the topology of the on-grid solar panel system.

The on-grid solar panel system directly connects the generated electrical energy to an existing system (supplied by PLN) and does not require a battery.

"If the installed solar panels' capacity continues to be significantly increased, it will benefit the environment and reduce operating expenses for the company," he concluded.
