Successfully Empowering Neighborhood Residents, Semen Gresik Receives the Mine Welfare of the Community (TAMASYA) Awards from the Director General of Mineral and Coal of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources of the Republic of Indonesia
Rembang, December 11th 2023 – PT Semen Gresik Rembang Factory (PT Semen Indonesia Persero Tbk Site Rembang) won 2 prestigious awards Mine Welfare Community (Tamasya) Award, Best Performance of Community Development and Empowerment (PPM) 2023 from Directorate General of Mineral & Coal Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Republic of Indonesia at Bidakara Hotel Jakarta (8/12). The award was received directly by the Director of Operations of PT Semen Gresik, Benny Ismanto.
The two awards are the Environmental PPM Implementation category in activating the Women's Movement (Bumi Kartini) and empowering vulnerable groups and the PPM Program Monitoring and Evaluation Category integrated into the social license index.
"The Tamasya Awards 2023 is proof of our consistency in innovating and implementing best practices in community development and empowerment around the company's operational areas and of course committed to creating environmental protection in our mining operations in Rembang," explained Benny Ismanto.
This award adds to the series of achievements achieved by Semen Gresik in the field of community engagement. Previously, through the local hero, Semen Gresik received the prestigious Indonesia CSR Awards (ICA) and Indonesian SDGs Award (ISDA) 2023.
Meanwhile, in his remarks, the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Arifin Tasrif, encouraged mineral and coal mining business entities to be able to optimize the implementation of PPM, following the Guidelines for Community Development and Empowerment, which includes the education sector, health, real income levels, economic independence, socio-culture, environment, community institutions, and infrastructure.
"It is hoped that with the PPM program that has been realized and the collaborative efforts made, all mining business entity commitments can continue and be strengthened to create positive changes in the community," he explained.
This community empowerment program meets several assessment criteria including the process of mapping needs and planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of the PPM program. To analyze the problems that underlie the innovation towards the implementation of PPM and show concrete evidence of the success, usefulness, and sustainability of innovation.
Semen Gresik's flagship innovation managed by the Sweet Fruit Karya Wanita Tani (Bumi Kartini) group in Ngampel village, Blora Regency, is the utilization of residents' yards for planting various nutritious vegetables and fruits, to the utilization of livestock waste into liquid fertilizer (Biourin) which has economic value.
Semen Gresik consistently provides technical assistance through training on modern agricultural techniques, land management, organic fertilizers, and overcoming plant pests.
It is recorded that the program initiative obtained a social benefit value or Social Return on Investment (SROI) of 3.83 in 2023, or 3 times higher than the total rupiah realization of program distribution.
