The Synergy of Semen Gresik and BPBD to Help 500 Thousand Liters of Clean Water in Drought Prone Villages

Rembang, October 09, 2020 - PT Semen Gresik brought 100 tank trucks with a total load of 500 thousand liters of clean water to residents in the Rembang Regency area as assistance due to the impact of drought in the dry season. Clean water assistance was distributed to 38 Villages in 14 Sub-districts on Thursday, October 8, 2020.

Seren Village in Sulang Sub-district is among the village that obtained the assistance. A total of four clean water tanks were distributed to residents in the four hamlets. According to the residents, the drought occurred three months ago, which has forced them to seek clean water from another village 6 kilometers away.

"Every year, there is drought. It has been almost three months. The source in the well is running low, and many residents choose to look for water outside the village," said Damadi, a resident of Seren Village.

Dharma Sunyata, Head of the Communication and CSR Unit of PT Semen Gresik, said that the clean water assistance is the 2020 Semen Gresik Disaster Care program.  This clean water assistance is expected to be able to help the residents' clean water needs during the dry season.

"This assistance is intended to ease the burden on victims of natural disasters, especially those in areas surrounding the company," said Dharma Sunyata, Thursday (8/10).

Dharma continued, the distribution of clean water assistance was carried out in collaboration with the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Rembang Regency. The distribution was conducted in turn every day.

"Indeed, for the distribution, we collaborated with the local BPBD. We mapped which villages really need assistance in order to be on target," said Dharma.

Dharma again explained that the Semen Gresik Cares for Disaster Program, apart from distributing clean water, also helped build rainfed reservoirs for agricultural irrigation in the village area surrounding the company and conducted reforestation.
